The influence of lithium tert-butoxide (tBuOLi) and of lithium chloride on the oligomerization of tert-butyl acrylate (tBuA) initiated by tert-butyl α-lithioisobutyrate (tBiB-Li) was investigated. These additives affect both the kinetics and the product distribution. Whereas the addition of LiCl leads to a narrower molecular-weight distribution (MWD) the presence of tBuOLi induces broader MWD's, characterized by a very high fraction of the dimer. Both additives decrease the rates of propagation to different degrees. Treatment nonadherence and neurocognitive impairment in bipolar disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Little is known regarding the relationship between treatment adherence and residual cognitive dysfunction in euthymic bipolar disorder patients. This study aimed to investigate whether poor treatment adherence is associated with cognitive impairment in euthymic bipolar patients and whether other factors may be associated with both adherence and cognitive functioning. Efficient Addition of Acid Enediolates to Epoxides

We report new conditions to facilitate the addition of dianions of carboxylic acids to epoxides as an alternative method to the use of aluminum enolates. These conditions require the use of a sub-stoichiometric (10%) amount of amine for dianion generation and the previous activation of the epoxide with LiCl. Other Lewis acids have been shown to be less effective. Yields are good but only low diastereoselectivity is attained, which has not been controlled despite attempts at optimization. Apparent molar volumes of lithium nitrate in 1-propanol + water in the temperature range from 288.15 to 318.15 K

Abstract Densities of 1-propanol+water+lithium chloride mixtures have been measured with an oscillating-tube densimeter over a large range of concentrations of the salt and 1-propanol at 288.15, 298.15, 308.15, and 318.15 K. From these densities, apparent molar volumes of lithium chloride in 1-propanol+water mixtures have been calculated for each temperature, and apparent molar volumes at infinite dilution have been evaluated. An empirical correlation for partial molar volumes of lithium chloride in 1-propanol+water mixtures with solvent composition and temperature has been derived.

Starting from solutions of unsubstituted cellulose (Avicel PH101, M w = 30.1 kg/mol and M w /M n = 3 or Solucell 500, M w = 230 kg/mol, M w /M n = 2.8) in either Nitren (0.8 M aqueous solution of the dihydroxotris(2-aminoethly)amine nickel(II) complex) or in a mixed solvent DMAc+LiCl (consisting of N,N-dimethylacetamide plus lithium chloride) it was investigated whether the segregation of a second phase caused by the addition of suitable precipitants leads to polymer fractionation. Estrogen-induced cell signalling in a cellular model of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterised by deposition of a 4 kDa amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta) into senile plaques of the affected brain. Abeta is a proteolytic product of the membrane protein, amyloid precursor protein (APP). An alternative cleavage pathway involves alpha-secretase activity and results in secretion of a 100 kDa non-amyloidogenic APP (sAPPalpha) and therefore a potential reduction in Abeta secretion. We have shown that estrogen induces alpha-cleavage and therefore results in the secretion of sAPPalpha. This secretion is signalled via MAP-kinase and PI-3 kinase signal-transduction pathways. Determination of rate constants of ion transfer kinetics across immiscible electrolyte solutions

Abstract The rotating diffusion cell was used to study ion transfer across the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions. Tetrabutylammonium was chosen as the transferring cation and lithium chloride as the supporting electrolyte in aqueous phase. Tetrabutylammonium tetrakis-(4-fluorophenyl)-borate in 2-nitrophenyl-octylether was used as the organic electrolyte solution supported in the porous membrane. The quasi-steady state current–voltage curves were measured both by applying potential steps and by imposing a slow potential sweep. EFFECT OF THE IMPase INHIBITOR L690,330 ON SEA URCHIN DEVELOPMENT

Abstract A variety of concentrations of the IMPase inhibitor L690,330 were added to sea urchin embryos. Immediate arrest of development was obtained for concentrations from 7.5 m m on. Concentrations lower than 3.5 m m permitted gastrulation but inhibited skeletogenesis and disturbed elongation along the animal–vegetal axis. The latter results are similar to those obtained by counteracting lithium effect with myoinositol, which are suggested to be due to partial relief of IMPase inhibition.

The kinetics and the molecular weight distributions (MWD) in the anionic polymerization of tert-butyl acrylate (tBuA) in tetrahydrofuran at 23 ± 3°C were investigated. Tert-butyl α-lithioisobutyrate (tBiB-Li) was used as the initiator in the absence and presence of the additives lithium chloride and lithium tert-butoxide (tBuOLi). A flow tube reactor was used which allowed very rapid mixing of reagents, within milliseconds. The polymerization is extremely fast, half-lives being 0,01 s for the system without additive, 0,05 s for LiCl and 3 s for tBuOLi as an additive.
